Victoria Flowers
I am inspired by erosion and corrosion and it’s environmental impact. Nature’s wear on surfaces such as wood, metal, plaster, and brick which produce subtle irregular features as they wear away and return to the earth.
My work explores the intricate patterns and marks produced by weathering and the personal responses these evoke. This in turn intimately reveals an unveiling on a deeper level resulting in sometimes surprising reactions and responses.
Using oils, gesso, plaster, and cold wax. I build numerous layers and textures into my work using a variety of techniques from mark-making to surface manipulation.
With a background of Illustration and Painting over three decades, I like exploring a range of mediums.
I have had my work displayed nationally and internationally, and have worked alongside authors, digital artists, animators, sculptors, and publishers.
I continue to learn and I’m always finding new ways to make marks on a surface.
Graduating with a BA Hons in Painting and Illustration from Wolverhampton University, I currently live and practice in Yorkshire.
My recent series of paintings have been an exploration of trauma, rehabilitation, and renewal. The raw and spontaneous impact this has had on my work has resulted in a more immersive relationship with colour, texture and hidden surface detail.
